Meditation is fast becoming one of modern life’s most essential survival skills.
However, it hasn’t been part of our western culture for very long, so it can still seem a bit weird and unnecessary to people who haven’t yet experienced its many benefits.
In the not so distant future, meditating daily to look after your mental health will be seen like dental flossing for oral health. Of course, It won’t kill you if you don’t do it, but it’s an obvious healthy habit to cultivate.
So, how can you learn to be good at meditating? The answer is simply to PRACTICE DAILY. No more, no less.
Meditation is easy to do. It takes no special equipment, clothing or environment.
The problem with this is – IT IS EQUALLY EASY NOT TO DO!
So, to be a good meditator, all you need to do is make and keep regular appointments with yourself to stop and meditate for a specific length of time. 10 minutes at a time is all you need to get yourself started. Then just practice the basics.
Not sure about the basics yet? No problem! Enjoy learning from this excellent short video from Dan Harris
Of course, it’s far easier and more fun to practice alongside a group of other people and a great teacher. If you’d like to do that in Sheffield some time then sign up for our Mindfulness Mavericks newsletter below to find out when our next fun and user-friendly courses and workshops are.
